Reila Animation is complete!

So yeah I finished my animation “Reila” on april 23 2010 as my thesis film. I am very excited to show it to everyone and hopefully people would enjoy it. It was long and intensive work. All I can say is I am very happy to finish it and also very tired. One thing I noticed is I definitely like collaborative working then working entirely by yourself on a film alone in your own room.

Well I present to you Reila:

-Sincerely M.B.
Now I work on Ponzi….. piled stacks of pages to tone.

Last War Music

Hello all!

I’ve been getting a lot of requests for the Last War theme lately and decided it’s about time I upload it on our site. So here it is! Right now it’s on filefront, but eventually I will have it in it’s own section on our site.  But for those who want it now, here it is :D

Latest News and Words:

People must wonder, have we died, did we stop making things? The answer is “NO”. For the matter of fact both M.B. and Jennifer Xu have been slaving away since June 2009 in bringing forth something they are very passionate about. Which is their first small independent animation project that they are doing entirely on their own. Jen is working on “Caelum: Under the White Sky” and M.B. on “Reila” an actual adaptation of the comic. So let me update you on certain things, that will be coming up in few months.

Also we have started a group on Deviant Art: http://pigtail-studio.deviantart.com/

I need to fill out paper work darn you thesis I haven’t slept decently life makes no sense I am going to be locked away for next 60 days in my room trying not to be distracted by internet while I work on my animation. I am changing my work method, hopefully I will speed up. I want to finish this cries. Waaaaaaaah. I miss my friends and family time and outside time and life. Hey everyone~! I am happy to announce that the official blog for Caelum: Under the White sky is online and running!

You may ask, what is Caelum: Under the White Sky?

It is my senior thesis project at SVA, the next film that I am working on after the Last War trailer. Be sure to check it out and keep updated about the film’s progress.

:NYAF 2009: The Day Pigtail Came Out of the Cave

So I went with a great group of girls to the New York Anime Fest on Saturday. It started slow, but later ended up being a blast once more people started arriving.

The day started with us at our studio, getting a good night’s rest before the con day. Well at least I tried to. I’d gotten sick thanks to a friend of mine –stares- so that night was a bit of a pain. It was like my allergy from the ac and my illness all decided to attack me at once and make that hour and a half before sleeping hell. Anyways, I managed to sleep somehow and rise before everyone else so I could get myself to breathe out of my nose again. There were lots of “Free Hugs” people at the con and I seriously contemplating giving them what they wanted so they would understand the consequences, especially with the swine flu scare going on (seriously did any of them think of that?) but I decided to be nice and avoid doing so. We got on the train to take our shift (Jen, Kate, and myself) and during the ride we made a few fun little signs to post up. One sign displaying the price and another to encourage people to take one of our free flyers, thus spreading the news of our studio and what we do.

Once we got to our table, just around the corner from this video game demo spot, it took a short while until we got into the swing of things. My voice wasn’t really up to par so I couldn’t really do much with bringing people over to the table, but luckily enough they did so on their own in flocks. We advertised the school; lots of the comics sold well due to SVA’s smart us of the “buy one get this cool shit free” angle. As the day went on I got into the routine of explaining about what we were doing with the school and adding in my own little bit about Pigtail with that. Lots of people liked the magazine, but of course didn’t buy. Though that’s where the handy ‘lil flyers came in. We passed out a lot, it was a short and simple way of directing people to go buy our magazine online. After our shifts we walked around admiring everyone else’s art at the artist’s alley. Too much fanart, but what can I say? Fanart sells, plain and simple. I did like a lot of the original works though. There was a watercolorist there that had amazing talent.

Once Maria took her shift from 3-4 we got back into business. We hung behind her like some weird lackeys, which was very amusing. We got a lot of cool people walk by and we had the pleasure of talking with them. I made sure to point out to Maria some of the ‘ press’ kind of people. Not sure if we’ll get any pics put up but at least we got a lot of word about us out. There were about 2 guys talking to us that were really interested in what we did so we’ll see what comes out of that. I’m still not sure what all of that was about, but I guess we’ll see. All and all the con was okay. Though I’d hate to say I still think NYAF could use some work, especially with the organization of things and better selection of events. Though it’s still a new con so I’ll make an exception. Another thing I didn’t like was my own fault. I had forgotten to bring my cell phone with me so that made it impossible for me to contact 2 of my good friends that I’ve wanted to see for a while. So if I didn’t see you I’m terribly sorry that I was so forgetful.

In other news Pigtail Studio now will be at Otakon 2010. We’re still thinking about getting a table of our own/splitting with someone or something like that so I’ll report on that once it’s more solid. We have a room booked already though so we’ll definitely at least be attending. Be sure to check out our site and please consider buying our first issue of StoryArk. We’ve worked very hard and are continuing to do so to pump out work for everyone to see. All the support you guys can give us will be very appreciated!

Attending Conventions

Pigtail Studio will be attending New York Anime Festival on September 26th, 2009, Saturday.

We will be at School of Visual Arts table in the Artist Alley from 2pm till the end of the day. So please stop by and check us out. We will be giving out fliers for our new magazine and selling ten copies first press copies at the booth. The artists will be there to give out signatures as well. If you have any questions or want to meet us in person drop by.

We are planning to attend Otakon 2010, hopefully we can get a booth with goodies.

Also we have added the more link us banners thanks to graphic work done by Lily and Jen. So pick a cute to promote us.

One Man Navy

Hey Everyone, I’m that hidden member that doesn’t talk much at all. Right now I’m working on a project called “One Man Navy” for my senior portfolio at SVA and currently I’m scripting the entire thing. I’ll post up some sketches once I do my character designs. It’ll be a small spin off of Jennifer’s “Last War” idea (with her permission of course).  I’m super psyched and should probably get back to work, lol.

Online Shop is Open/Site Updates

After 20 hours of working and editing, finally reorginzed the stuff and now our comic pages are more sufficient. I am done with technical updates for this month so notify what is new.

-Our Shop- New! Is now selling our magazine. Make a mental note our first issue was rushed beyond deadline. We first made a prototype and sold it at Fresh Meat at School of Visual Arts. Luckily we got alot of good feedback from the important people that went to that fair. Ofcourse it will be nice if someone wrote a review of that event. Anyway our first issue has some grammar mistakes there and there… Hopefully on our next issue that will be improved.

-Reila & Ponzi - Have new layots that nearly killed me to make, gah but I did it… I may have to revise the Ponzi layot in the future but meh….

-Button fixeses/Section Fix- Little cleaning with our work/comics/animation. Less mixed up. Added the illustrations in Piano Prince.

-Shoutbox- New! You can now leave messages/feedback through the shoutbox which can be found in Reila & Ponzi.

Okay, Now I am back to tonning chapter 02 of Ponzi & working on Reila the animation. See Ya!    -M.B.
